Glaucoma encompasses a group of eye diseases that share a characteristic pattern of optic nerve damage which, if untreated, frequently leads to vision loss. Risk factors for glaucoma include elevated intraocular pressure, a family history of glaucoma, glaucomatous changes in the optic nerve appearance, and decreased corneal thickness. In addition, certain racial and ethnic groups have a higher incidence of glaucoma subtypes. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for preventing vision loss. Peter Branden, M.D. is fellowship-trained in the subspecialty of glaucoma. His expertise is in the diagnosis and management of complex and challenging cases of glaucoma. Stanley Hersh, M.D., David Silverstone, M.D., Aron Rose, M.D., and Cinthia Covey, M.D. also have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. At The Eye Care Group, our glaucoma service is dedicated to providing expert and compassionate care in even the most challenging glaucoma cases. On your initial visit, expect a thorough medical history and comprehensive examination. We recommend that you plan on an initial appointment length of approximately 2 hours and arrive either 15 minutes early or complete the registration form prior to your appointment. In addition, your ophthalmologist may recommend that you undergo special testing, such as a visual field test, gonioscopy, optic disc photography, or Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to help guide your diagnosis and treatment. Treatment options may include observation and close monitoring for any sign of development or progression of glaucoma, or may include glaucoma treatments, such as eye drops, laser procedures, or surgery.

In addition to offering our patients the highest quality eye care and the latest in imaging technology, we also provide 24-hour access to one of our doctors 7 days a week for ocular emergencies.
