Vision Restoration Therapy™ (VRT)

THE EYE CARE CARE GROUP

Vision Restoration Therapy™   (VRT™)

The Eye Care Group is the first center in Connecticut to offer NovaVision VRT™-Vision Restoration Therapy™. VRT is a non-invasive therapy, that can help to restore some vision loss caused by stroke or brain injury, by activating the brain’s self-repair capability, leading to improvement in visual function in about 65-70% of patients.

Diagnostic testing is performed in our Southbury office, while follow-up can be completed in our other offices. Treatment is at home for about an hour a day, in divided sessions, using a medical device that targets areas of residual vision. Visual function improvement may be seen even if the visual loss occurred many years ago.

During each session, patients focus their eyes on a specific point and respond when stimuli are seen.  Therapy typically lasts for about 6-7 months.

Dr. Robert Lesser, directing the NovaVision therapy at ECG, is Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science and Neurology at Yale University School of Medicine, as well as Clinical Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Yana Kostina O’Neil, Clinical Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale University School of Medicine, is co-directing NovaVision Therapy at TECG.
