Front Desk Medical Secretary
Our staff is friendly, well spoken, and able to multi-task. Experience a plus. Responsibilities include heavy phone volume, greeting and registering patients, scheduling appointments, verification of referrals, check out and general office duties. Opportunity available in our New Haven location, paid parking. Full or part-time.

- Begin to accrue benefit time from day one. Not eligible for paid benefit time until successful completion of probationary /training period. Only eligible to be paid for actual worked time during probationary period. (*Part-time staff accrues on a pro-rata basis, based on straight time worked the previous year, overtime is not used in calculating benefits)
- Paid Time Off (PTO) Any time off will be paid out of time accrued in this category; staff is able to use time they have accrued up to that time. Years 1-3 fulltime staff accrue 17 days PTO a year, years 4-9 full time staff accrue 22 days PTOa year, years 10-15 fulltime staff accrue 27 days PTO a year, year 16 28 days, year 17 29 days, year 18 30 days, year 19 31 days, year 20 and thereafter 32 days of PTO a year. (Part-time staff accrues on a pro-rata basis, based on straight time worked the previous year: overtime is not used for calculating benefits)
- All benefit time is based on a 5-day week consisting of 40 hours.
- Health insurance is available to employees that work at least 30 hours a week employee contributes bi-weekly, any additional family members at employee’s expense. Employee contribution can be in pre-tax dollars. Eligible 1st of month following successful completion of 90 day training. /probationary period.
Currently we are offering a High Deductible Plan in conjunction with a Health Savings Account or a Health Reimbursement Arrangement as the Base Plan. Employees enrolled in the High Deductible Plan are eligible for up to $1000.00 funding towards the deductible.
There is a traditional plan available as a buy-up.

- Short-term disability, life insurance paid for by practice is available to staff that works at least 30 hours a week. Eligible 1st of month following successful completion of 90 day training. /probationary period.
- Pension plan – 401-K and a profit sharing plan, eligible after a year of service (* staff with less than 1000 hours a year may not be eligible) entrance in July and January
- After one year of employment you will be eligible to participate in Medical and Dependant Care Flexible Spending Accounts These accounts will allow you to pay for certain qualified medical, dental, vision and dependant daycare services on a pre-tax bases. The result, through proper use of this plan, will be more money in your pocket. (Eligible the first of the month following 2nd anniversary.)
- Holidays – Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the Friday after, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day (*all holiday pay is pro-rated for part-time staff) Staff in a probationary status and per diem staff are not eligible for holiday pay.
- Paid parking at our New Haven office, there is no charge for parking at our Waterbury, Southbury or Branford offices
- Quarterly attendance bonus. A fifty dollar ($50.00) bonus is paid for perfect attendance in a quarter.
- Direct deposit is available
- Eligible to join credit union – Mutual Security Credit Union
- Free pair glasses every other year in month of birthday (eligible after a year of continuous service), four half-price coupons for optical shop annually (eligible after six months of service)
- Eye exam for employee every 2 years (eligible after a year of continuous service), required to fulfill all requirements of insurance
- LASIK or PRK - $799 per eye global fee for employees, immediate family members (spouse and children) of employees are eligible for a 25% discount. (currently the fee is $2000 per eye, the family discount would be $1500). Eligible after a year of continuous service.
- Plastic surgery – the fees charged by Dr. Silbert for plastic procedures he does for staff members and their immediate families will be discounted 20%. Staff members who have been employed for more than 10 years will receive a 50% discount. Eligible after a year of continuous service.
- Employees, their spouse and dependent children become eligible to receive a discount in our contact lens department after 6 months of service. Employees pay the cost of the contact lens and shipping and handling charges. Initial fittings and refitting for immediate family members will be performed at a 10% discount. Materials bought are subject to the 10% discount.
- In house professional development is offered to all staff. Alternating between the Waterbury and New Haven offices there are in-services each month. These in-services are presented either by one of the physicians, orthoptists, Licensed Opticians or senior clinical staff. These in-services are designed to give the staff the opportunity to become more knowledgeable about the medical aspects of the practice and include presentations about eye diseases and conditions, treatment options, new developments in surgery and medical treatment and more.
- Performance bonus paid in May and November, based on performance evaluation and practice profitability. New employees become eligible to participate in the pay for performance program on the first of the month after completing six months employment and successful completion of probation. Once you become eligible, your bonus will be pro-rated if it falls within a cycle based on your start date as well as the bonus period
- Annual CONSIDERATION in January for a MERIT raise
- Clinical staff receives an annual allowance for professional development. Non-certified ophthalmic assistants are allotted $300.00 a year, Certified Ophthalmic Assistants (COA) are allotted $400.00 a year, Certified Ophthalmic Technicians (COT) are allotted $800.00 annually, Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologists (COMT), Certified Retinal Angiographers (CRA) and Licensed Opticians (LO) are all allotted $900.00 annually and Certified Orthoptists are allotted $1525 each year for professional development.
