For over 25 years Joel Stoltz has been working as an optician specializing in the in the needs of the vision impaired.
Growing up in New York City, he is a graduate of the New York City College of Technology where he received his degree
in Ophthalmic Dispensing. Continuing his education Mr. Stoltz received his Masters in business Administration from the
University of Hartford, and is one of the few opticians in the country with the distinction as Master Optician with a Masters in
Ophthalmic Optics from the American Board of Opticianry.
Mr. Stoltz is a licensed optician in Connecticut; New York; and Massachusetts. He is also certified by the American Board of
Opticianry, and the National Contact Lens Examiners; a Fellow in the National Academy of Opticianry and has attained Fellow
status in the Contact Lens Society of America.
He lectures to healthcare professionals on many topics including low vision, contact lenses, and ophthalmic dispensing.
Mr. Stoltz has served on the faculty of New York City College of Technology, Middlesex Community College, and the University
of Connecticut School of Medicine. He currently teaches contact lenses and low vision courses at Holyoke Community College,
and is a member of their Opticianry Department advisory board.
By gubernatorial appointment Mr. Stoltz has served on the Connecticut State Board of Examiners for Opticians. His other
experiences include The Lions Low Vision Center of Eastern Connecticut where he served as its director; University of
Connecticut School of Medicine where he managed the Low Vision and Contact Lens clinics; at Designs for Vision, Inc. he was the
Low Vision Products Manager; and represented Telesensory Corporation in Connecticut and New York. For the past 20-years
Mr. Stoltz has owned and operated Vision Rehabilitation Associates of Connecticut, Inc. providing low vision aids and services in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts.
